Volunteering
WHO can become a volunteer at our Community Center? Answer: Anyone who is honest and wants to help our GLBTI community in some way may apply to become a volunteer. WHAT kinds of things do volunteers do? Answer: The job assignments for volunteers are as varied as the skills, talents, and personal wishes of each volunteer. Some examples are: Receptionist WHEN and how often do volunteers work at the Community Center? Answer: The Center has both job assignments that need daily attention and some that only need to be done on special occasions or as needs arise. During the interview the volunteer and the volunteer coordinator together decide what job the person will do initially (depending on the needs of the Center). They also decide whether the volunteer will work on a regular basis (what days and for what hours) or whether they will work on an "on call basis," working when they are contacted because a special project needs their help. WHERE does a person go to interview and to work as a volunteer? Answer: The volunteer's interview and initial paperwork is done right at the Community Center at 1841 Broad Street in Hartford on a Tuesday afternoon if at all possible. If this is a problem, other arrangements can be made. Except for very occasional activities outside the Center the volunteer will work at The Community Center at the address above. HOW can a person become a volunteer? Answer: Contact Bonnie Whelan (Volunteer Coordinator) at the Center by calling 860-724-5542 ext 301 or through e-mail at volunteer@CTPrideCenter.org
